Multigenerational houses on the rise
In 2011, over four million Australians lived in multigenerational households where two or more generations of related adults
live together. This accounts for one in five Australians, with the proportions higher still in the major cities.
At its completion, our research will provide insights into intergenerational family relationships and individuals’ understandings of family and home, challenge and extend understandings of intergenerational dependency, and provide valuable information to enable policy-makers to better plan for urban development and
forecast demand for housing, services and infrastructure needs.
