Providing a sustainable living environment in not-for-profit retirement villages: A case study in Australia
In Australia, 40.1 per cent of retirement villages are not-for-profit. Not-for-profit developers face more challenges than private developers mainly because sustainable retirement villages need more financial resources, which is challenging for not-for-profit developers given their limited financial means. In addition, in comparison with residents living in private retirement villages, not-for-profit village residents are more concerned with the extra costs relating to the use of the sustainable practices and features in their villages.
It is meaningful to explore strategies and approaches for providing a sustainable living environment, especially in not-for-profit retirement villages. Few studies have been devoted to this issue to date. This study aims to address this research gap by presenting a comprehensive case study of a not-for-profit retirement village in Queensland, Australia.
