Housing Justice Quilting Bee

26 Oct 2023

Come join Housing for the Aged Action Group in celebrating 40 years advocating for housing justice for older people by making a protest quilt with us!

11am-2pm,
Thursday 26th of October
Level 1, Ross House,
Flinders Lane Melbourne

Housing for the Aged Action Group (HAAG) is celebrating its 40 year anniversary by making a quilted scrap banner with pieces contributed by members and staff to represent people coming together to advocate for housing justice for all older people!

Quilting has a radical history of social justice, connection and inclusion from First Nations Peoples’ Possum Skin Coats to the Rajah Quilt made by women convicts on ship.

This event will bring people together to sew, tell stories, and connect over a making a quilted banner which will be used for protests and will be proudly displayed in the HAAG office next to an existing banner painted by members and their families in 1983.

The banner will be made up of letter squares made by different people and in this session we will be mainly hand stitching and finishing off the quilt.

A light lunch will be supplied, as well as information about HAAG and about housing issues that impact older people so you can learn more.

All materials will be supplied, but we are accepting donations of fabric if you have a sewing cupboard that needs a clear out!

This event is part of the Seniors Festival, Please RSVP using the form below.
