An independent, online information session about the retirement housing sector in Victoria. It can be complex to navigate, and this session helps people to understand the pros and cons of different housing types, including retirement villages, residential parks, lifestyle villages, rental villages, and independent living units. The session will also cover where you can go for assistance if you are a retirement housing resident who needs support, information or advice.

An information session on the Federal Government’s Care Finder program, which assists older people to access aged care services. The session covers eligibility, what services people can access through My Aged Care and what other service supports are available. This session is suitable for people 65+, who are eligible for aged care services but don’t know how to access these services and have limited support.

We appreciate Senator David Pocock, Kylea Tink MP and other members for their efforts bring this Bill forward and echo the support from the community sector organisations. Among other things, the submission below outlines the housing and homelessness related challenges of older people and the need to specifically recognise their needs.

We are seeking a motivated individual who understands housing, ageing and aged care related policies and other intersectional policies both nationally and across some States and Territories. Knowledge about various parliamentary inquiry processes, legislated reviews and commissions of inquiry will be an added advantage.

Public housing is an appropriate housing option for older people, as rents are capped at 25% of income, and it provides security of tenure. In September 2023, the Victorian Government announced plans to “retire and redevelop” the public housing towers over the coming decades.
