Housing for the Aged Action Group

Fiona and Pam from HAAG chat to Maurya from Voices of the South Side about the Homeless Memorial in St Kilda and the event held annually in July to remember homeless people who have passed away. 

Fiona & Pam chat to Susan and Margaret, two of our volunteers, about how they can help people to navigate the aged care system, including how to access home care and how to register on the My Aged Care portal.  We also discuss other ways to get involved with HAAG including the working groups and General meetings, and the benefits of becoming a member.

Shane and Fiona talk to Rebecca Edwards, principal lawyer at Seniors Rights Victoria about elder abuse, what to look out for and how older people can protect themselves.  We also discuss how elder abuse can lead to housing insecurity.

Shane & Fiona chat to Maryanne Wright, one of HAAG's peer educators, about our community education program run by women with a lived experience of being at risk of homelessness.  Maryanne comments on the huge change having stable affordable housing makes for these women's health and wellbeing, and discusses the reality of living on newstart in your late 50's. 

Shane and Pam chat with Fiona Waters, one of HAAG's retirement housing workers, about how to start a residents committee and how they can assist residents of retirment housing to assert their rights.

On the eve of the Federal Election, Pam and Fiona chat with Leonie Bessant about the National Alliance for Seniors Housing and what they are hoping for from a Federal Government to address the housing affordability crisis.  We also discuss the recent amendments in Victoria to the Residential Tenancies Act and what older renters should be aware of. 

Pam and Fiona chat to Jeanette Large from Women's Property initiatve about their older women's housing pilot program, building housing for older women with a small amount of savings.
