Early intervention to prevent homelessness for older people training video

We are working with National Ageing Research Institute (NARI) and Deakin University on an early intervention project to prevent homelessness for older people.  We are measuring the health and wellbeing and cost effectiveness outcomes of an early referral into the Assistance with Care and Housing program (ACH).

We know that RAS and ACAT assessors will be seeing people during their work who are at risk of homelessness. We are asking them to watch a short training video (20 minutes) and complete a short survey.

This video includes recent data on the prevalence of homelessness for older people, what to look out for and when to refer to our Assistance with Care and Housing program.

If an assessor sees an older person who is living in private rental, they are likely to be at risk. Being single and female increases their risk. By linking them with a support service like the ACH program we can prevent people from falling into a housing crisis.

Please complete this survey once you have viewed the video

We would greatly appreciate it if assessors could participate in this project by watching the video, then making a referral to us via the My Aged Care portal.

We are also available to deliver the training face-to-face to teams or networks of assessors.  Please let us know if you are interested in having us come to your workplace to deliver this information.
