Almshouses: their role in housing policy

Almshouses are charitable organisations, some of which are also Registered Social landlords. They mainly specialise in housing for the elderly. Supported housing providers, including almshouses, have made representations to the Government over the intention to cap Housing Benefit entitlement for residents at Local Housing Allowance rates and the requirement to reduce their rent levels by 1% in each year for four years from April 2016.
