Three older tenants discuss the impact of insecure housing on their lives

These interviews about insecure housing were filmed in September 2009

The results of a project documenting the benefits and barriers of residents’ committees for retirees in caravan and residential parks and villages will hopefully assist to improve relationships between residents and operators in parks around Victoria.

HAAG with funding from the Victoria Law Foundation has completed the project out of a need to inform older residents in parks about their right to form committees in response to changes to the Residential Tenancies Act 1997. In September 2011 Part 4A was introduced into the Act improving protections for permanent parks residents who own their dwelling but lease/rent the site on which it stands.

The report was launched on Tuesday 21 August 2012, in conjunction with Mornington Peninsula Shire and has been the catalyst of relationships built between residents’ groups, and between residents and industry/operators.

The aim of the project was to document the values of, barriers to and resources needed for residents committees in parks and to provide a balanced view of the sector in relation to these areas.

Home at Last - The importance of home and community for older people

The Home at Last Forum held on Thursday 18th April 2013 provided information to the community and housing, aged care and community agencies about the issues facing older people at risk of homelessness. The forum presented the latest research and discussed progress of the Home at Last ‐ Older Persons Housing Information & Support Service, a Homelessness Innovations Action Project funded by the Victorian Government. The forum also heard directly from a panel of older people and viewed a short film on how a secure and affordable home had created individual health and well-being whilst building a strong community for these residents.
