Retirement Housing Worker

Do you hate bullies? Are you passionate about tenant rights? We have a short term position in our retirement housing team, doing work that makes a difference to the lives of older people. You will be working with older residents to assist them to exercise their rights, and to provide advice to other workers, in a small team within our Housing Information Service. If you have worked in tenancy or as an advocate, you will be well-placed to learn more about this area of housing.

Big Housing For Who?

24 Mar 2021
Katelyn Butterss from the Victorian Public Tenants Association talks to Shane and Fiona about the Vic government's so-called 'big housing spend' and proposed ten-year housing strategy - the good, the bad, and the just plain missing in the state's housing policy. The consultation discussed in this episode is now closed, but you can read more about it and follow future progress here. If you need advice or assistance from the VPTA, you can call 1800 015 510 or email enquiries@vpta.org.au. And you can find out more about HAAG at our website, oldertenants.org.au.

We are participating in this online discussion hosted by OPAN, covering how aged care workers can support older people experiencing or at risk of homelessness.

14 Apr 2021

The Victorian Government is releasing its long-awaited Options Paper, outlining ideas for reforms to the Retirement Villages Act. HAAG will be making a submission about what our members and clients want and need from this review, and we invite members who live in retirement villages to share their ideas and priorities.

Our Autumn newsletter discussed the so called 'Big Housing Build', all the exciting projects happening at HAAG, and we also show off some of our autumn vegetable harvests.

International Women's Day Special

10 Mar 2021
Fiona welcomes Pam Young back to the show, and chats to Kobi Maglen on this International Women's Day special.  We hear about the disparity in retirement incomes for older women, which leaves them in poverty and at risk of homelessness in their later years.  We chat about Pam's experiences in growing up in public housing in the 1950's.  And we hear a recording from the late Molly Hadfield, a feminist activist and one of our earliest members, talking about what it means to have safe and well connected housing.
