Smart Cities and the Ageing Population
Due to a growing number of elderly people, it is a necessity to create the cities that are aware of the special needs of all their citizens including the needs of aging populations. This paper shows that by combining smart homes with smart cities, we are able to provide an ICT infrastructure that exploits the entangled connections between the ambient assisted living, the smart homes, and the smart cities
In this paper we will discuss how the recent development in ICT, and its particular components, Internet of Things, Clouds of Things, the Advanced Artificial Intelligence, can become building blocks between elderly people, smart homes and smart cities.
This paper will also present a brief overview of a selected number of projects within the fields of health and home care, social interaction, supply with daily goods and chores and safety. As an example an overview of the services of the city of Oulu for elderly citizens’ will be given.
