Housing as a Platform for Improving Outcomes for Older Renters
This paper focuses on low-income older renters and how housing can provide a platform for supporting their independence and well-being.The paper:
- provides context for the important role of housing and neighborhoods in supporting independence for older Americans generally and low-income older renters in particular
-presents a conceptual framework for the pathways between the housing and service environment, favorable housing outcomes, and well-being and discuss options for achieving positive housing outcomes and the barriers to realizing them.
- examines the theoretical basis and empirical evidence for a link between favorable housing outcomes and improving well-being in terms of health, functioning, and ability to remain independent.
- discusses a plan for future research to address gaps in current knowledge and summarize our conclusions.
