Housing options and independent living: sustainable outcomes for older people who are homeless

This research was undertaken on the premise that there is a lack of understanding about the needs of older homeless people in Australia, despite the fact that older people on fixed incomes in insecure housing are growing in number and are at particular risk of homelessness or the need for institutional care. The research was guided by four questions: 1. What housing and support options are available for older people who are homeless? 2. What housing and support options do older homeless people prefer and what factors, for example gender, culture/ethnicity and location, shape these preferences? 3. What individual and structural factors contribute to acceptance/resistance to housing and support options for older homeless people? 4. What housing and support options result in sustainable outcomes for independent living for old er homeless people?
