Census of Population and Housing: Estimating homelessness, 2016
This publication presents estimates of the prevalence of homelessness, and the characteristics and living arrangements of those likely to be homeless, on Census night 2016 and compares those estimates to Census night in 2011, 2006 and 2001. Estimates are also provided for people whose living arrangements are close to the statistical boundary of homelessness, but who are not classified as homeless.

Majority of Australian tenants are living in rental stress
The Rent.com.au Rental Affordability Survey of more than 2,000 renters across Australia in April revealed that 53 per cent of tenants reported spending one-third to a half of their weekly income on rent. Rental stress occurs when a person pays more than a third of their income on rent.

This report looks at statistics for the homeless population across Europe. While not specific to an aged population, this cohort is examined in the wider context.
The report concludes there are many dimensions of homelessness that may exist across different contexts, a potentially important one being the possibility of quite simple associations between some forms of homelessness and poverty.

The ‘Average’ Victorian Private Tenant
The TUV analysed ABS Census data from 2011 and identified the "average" characteristics of tenants in the Victorian private rental market. The entire tenant population in Victoria is approximately 1.26 million people, roughly one million of which (83.3%) live in privately rented housing.
