Living Arrangements of Older Persons: A Report on an Expanded International Dataset
Population ageing is occurring everywhere: nearly every country in the world is expected to experience a substantial increase in the proportion of the population aged 60 years or over between 2017 and 2050.
Population ageing is occurring along with broader social and economic changes that are taking place around the world. Each of these transformations is reshaping the contexts in which older persons live, including the composition of their households.
Just over a decade since the publication of the 2005 report, the United Nations has expanded the dataset describing older persons’ living arrangements around the world. With an increased number of
countries and time periods represented, the new dataset provides broader evidence on the global patterns in older persons’ households.
