Our mission is to develop and spread solutions that improve
the experience of ageing, particularly amongst the so-called
‘baby boomers’. Our focus is on how we might ensure that
all people in Australia have the opportunity to age well, not
just those who can afford it.

Australia's population is growing rapidly, and the fastest growing age bracket is 65 years and over. This raises the question of how (and where) will Australia's increasing numbers of elderly live? Will we see more instances of multiple generations living in the one home?

Homelessness and Older People
According to the ABS, 14,851 people aged 55+ were experiencing
homelessness on Census night 2011. People aged 55+ consist of
only 7% of clients accessing specialist homelessness services in 2014– 15. This is partly due to the service system design but also indicates that is a lack of beds for older Australians within the homelessness service system.

Agile housing for an Ageing Australia
By 2055, Australia’s 65+ population will have doubled and, if current strategies are followed, it is likely that the housing available will be inappropriate. Today’s housing stock will still be in use yet few developers and designers are capitalising on the potential of agile housing and, more broadly, the creation of age-friendly neighbourhoods.

Meeting the Housing Needs of an Aging Population
The aging population in the US is more economically and ethnically diverse than any before, and will require a greater and more varied inventory of housing stock. There are significant implications for housing markets, as the need for homes that are affordable, accessible, and located in proximity to social and commercial centers and public transportation will rise.
