The genesis of this research commenced several years ago as the impactof Western Australia’s ‘resources boom’ was becoming evident. Although that period augured in years of prosperity for some Western Australians, for many – especially those on lower and xed incomes – the rising cost of living became problematic.

Places That Matter: Place Attachment and Wellbeing of Older Antillean Migrants in the Netherlands
It has been argued that attachment to place increases wellbeing in old age. Feeling ‘in place’ can increase an older person’s wellbeing. For older migrants it can be a challenge to live in-between cultures. The objective of the article is to explore how older Antillean migrants derive a sense of wellbeing from attachment to their everyday places.

It has focussed on the relationship between housing, and housing assistance measures, and the use of other services by recent immigrants, as well as measures of their quality of life, vulnerability and satisfaction with Australia.
